Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the Mat-Su Health Foundation, has broken ground on a new 45-bed behavioral health hospital in Palmer, adjacent to the Mat-Su Regional campus. Construction is underway, with the hospital anticipated to open toward the end of 2028.

The need for behavioral health care close to home continues to grow. Our existing psychiatric unit is often full, and patients in crisis may need to be transferred to Anchorage or even out of state—adding stress for patients and families during an already difficult time.

This freestanding behavioral health hospital will help change that. With 27 adult beds and 18 for adolescents, it would bring timely, trauma-informed care closer to home—for families who shouldn't have to choose between urgent help and long-distance travel.

We look forward to keeping our community updated as construction progresses and we move closer to opening our doors in 2028.
